Register to Judge the Coolidge Cup

Thank you for your interest in participating as a citizen debate judge in the Coolidge Cup. Without you, we could not run this tournament. To register, please fill out the form below. Please sign up for as many or as few rounds as you would like to judge, and please also note that this year’s tournament will be held online, so if you wish to judge, you will need to be comfortable using Zoom videoconferencing.

No experience in debating or judging is necessary in order to serve as a judge. We will provide you with materials to read over in advance, and there will be a judge training session held online on Thursday, July 2nd at 5pm ET. Call-in details about that training session will be shared with you when you register.

If you have any questions, contact Debate Director Jared Rhoads (jrhoads@coolidgefoundation.org).

Register to Judge the 2020 Coolidge Cup

  • Select as many as you wish. Note that when planning your day, we recommend that judges arrive to the Notch about 45 minutes prior to their first scheduled debate. Each round consists of two flights (i.e., two debates lasting between 28-38 minutes each, depending how much of the optional prep time the debaters use).
  • We'd like you and the debaters to get to know each other a little better. Please provide a brief 2-3 sentence bio that we can share with them. Perhaps say who you are, where you are from, and what you do. (We may edit for length.)
  • Are there any debaters at this tournament who you know you should NOT be assigned to judge for any reason? If so, list their name(s) here. The most common examples would be if you have any children competing or students whom you coach.
  • We want to make the judging experience as enjoyable, comfortable, and rewarding as possible. If you have any comments to share or special requests to make, please do so below.
