Levi’s father was an active campaigner for Calvin Coolidge, and grandparents from both sides of his family lived in homes on either side of Captain Goodhue’s home in Burlington, VT. Captain Goodhue was Grace Coolidge’s father. In 1928, at the age of nine, Mr. Smith remembers visiting the White House with his family and being received by Grace Coolidge. His nephew, Peter Smith, was active in VT politics as Lieutenant Governor.
Mr. Smith was in the US Foreign Service for nine years following WWII, as Vice Consul in England, Ontario, and the Belgian Congo. Until his retirement in 1981, he was an Officer with the Burlington Savings Bank for 27 years. Mr. Smith was a lifelong resident of Burlington, VT with his wife, Sybil.
