Resolution:        Resolved: The United States should abolish the capital gains tax.

The Coolidge Foundation and Thales Academy are pleased to announce the launch of the Coolidge Debate League and invite you to participate in the inaugural tournament. In the morning, students will attend a policy seminar on their debate topic and the late morning and afternoon will be dedicated to debate. Students will debate in teams of two and compete in multiple rounds where they will debate both sides of the debate topic. The event is free and lunch will be provided to all students and judges.

The tournament will be broken up into a high school bracket and a middle school bracket. Any student in grades 6 to 12 is eligible and we greatly encourage new debaters to participate! Debaters should try to find a partner to debate with them, but if they are unable, we will pair them with a partner from their school prior to the tournament. Students should register through the form at the bottom of this page by January 31, 2018. 

DEBATE JUDGES. We seek volunteers to help judge the debates. No previous debate experience or expertise is necessary for one to judge, and we often find that new judges make the best judges. In the morning judges will attend a brief training seminar which supply all the tools necessary to be an effective judge. TO VOLUNTEER AS A JUDGE PLEASE COMPLETE THIS FORM.

This is the inaugural tournament of a new league! Additional tournaments will be scheduled throughout the winter and spring with a League Championship tournament taking place in May 2018. Winners from the May 2018 tournament will earn a bid and an all-expenses-paid trip to compete in the Coolidge Cup National Championship in Vermont, July 1-5, 2018.
